Oneida Nation Head Start (ONHS) is a federally-funded program (Health Canada) designed to promote school-readiness for preschool children living in the community.
MANDATE
To increase child initiative in life long learning, foster education development for parents and to motivivate both towards achievement and appreciation within the community.
MISSION
To strengthen understanding and respect for Oneida culture, traditions, beliefs, values, develop leadership and education among children.
To promote cooperation and understanding amount parents, create positive self-images and develop self-reliance among families.
Our target population is at-home parents/caregivers and children aged 21/2 to 4. ONHS provides daily half-day childcare programs that promote social interaction, creativity, language, healthy eating and family outings.
Yethiyo’kuha (parent advisory committee) meets bi-weekly to discuss and decide on parent activities. Sponsored parent activities are intended to enhance language acquisition, health, child development and involvement opportunities. All programs and activities provided are supported with transportation services.
ONHS employs the following:
